During this procedure, a small amount of sterile saline solution is gently infused into the uterine cavity through a thin catheter while transvaginal ultrasound imaging is performed.<\/p><p>The infusion of saline helps to expand the uterine cavity, providing a clearer view of the endometrial lining and allowing for more detailed visualization than standard ultrasound alone. This enhanced detail can help detect abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions, or abnormal uterine shapes that might be contributing to symptoms like abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, or recurrent pregnancy loss.<\/p><p>Saline sonography is generally well-tolerated, minimally invasive, and does not require anesthesia. Some women may experience mild cramping during or after the procedure.
