⸺ Honest guidance · No pressure
Is this right for you?
We would rather help you work out whether we are the right fit before you book — and direct you elsewhere if we are not. This page is designed to give you an honest sense of who we help most, and when another kind of support might serve you better.
We are a small, specialist outpatient clinic. We are not the right service for everyone — and being clear about that from the outset is, we believe, part of good clinical care.
Read through these scenarios and see which resonates most with where you are right now.
- ✓ This is likely a good fit
You've been on medication for years and want a proper review
You were started on psychiatric medication during a difficult period — perhaps years ago — and have never had a thorough reassessment of whether you still need it.
You are exactly who we were set up to help. An initial assessment will review your full history and give you a clear clinical picture.
- ✓ This is likely a good fit
You want a second opinion on your diagnosis or treatment
You have been given a diagnosis or treatment plan that doesn’t quite feel right, and you want a fresh, independent perspective from a consultant who will take their time.
This is one of our most frequently requested services. You do not need to be planning to change anything — many people simply want clarity before making further decisions.
- ✓ This is likely a good fit
You tried to reduce medication before but it was too difficult
Previous attempts to reduce or stop medication were unsuccessful. You want to try again — but this time with proper expert guidance and a real plan.
Structured support makes an enormous difference. What feels impossible without guidance often becomes manageable with a proper taper plan and close monitoring.
- → We may not be the right fit
You want rapid medication changes without assessment
You would like to stop or significantly change medication quickly, without a full clinical assessment — perhaps because you have already decided what you want.
We will always conduct a full assessment before making clinical recommendations. We cannot responsibly prescribe or deprescribe without proper clinical evaluation first.
- → We may not be the right fit
You are primarily looking for ongoing weekly therapy
You are not particularly concerned about medication, and what you really need is regular weekly psychological therapy over an extended period.
We are a psychiatric consultation service, not a therapy practice. Ongoing psychological therapy is best sought through a dedicated therapist or IAPT service.
- ⚠ Please seek immediate support
You are in acute crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself
You are currently experiencing a psychiatric emergency, or are having thoughts of suicide or self-harm.
Please do not wait for a private appointment. Contact your GP urgently, call NHS 111, attend A&E, or call the Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7). We are not a crisis service. Your safety matters most right now.
This approach tends to suit people who…
It tends to be ess suited to those who…
- Value understanding over quick fixes and are willing to engage with the complexity of their own mental health history
- Are open to the possibility that factors beyond medication — life circumstances, relationships, meaning — are relevant to their mental health
- Want to take an active role in their care, rather than deferring entirely to clinical authority
- Are not in acute crisis and are stable enough to engage in an outpatient consultation process
- Can commit to regular follow-up appointments during any medication reduction process
- Are looking for a psychiatrist who will simply endorse decisions already made, without independent clinical assessment
- Want purely protocol-driven, symptom-management-focused care without any reflective element
- Require inpatient or crisis-level care at this time
- Are not willing or able to attend regular follow-up appointments during a deprescribing process
- If you are unsure, the most straightforward thing to do is book an initial consultation. We will give you an honest assessment of whether we can help — and if we cannot, we will do our best to point you in a better direction.
